Three candidates vying for Liberal leadership

FREDERICTON  - Three people will vie for the leadership of the Liberal Party of New Brunswick.

Nick Duivenvoorden of Belledune (top, left), Michael Murphy of Moncton (middle, left) and Brian Gallant of Moncton (bottom, left) are seeking the leadership. All three met the May 31 deadline for filing nomination papers.

New Brunswick Liberals will gather in Moncton on Saturday, October 27 at Casino NB to select the leader.

“We’re very happy with the candidates that have come forward seeking the leadership,” New Brunswick Liberal Association president Britt Dysart said. “To have the three candidates of such high quality indicates that the future of our party in New Brunswick will be in very good hands after October 27.”

As was recommended during the party renewal process the leadership contest will feature a preferential ballot system. This replaces the delegate system that was traditionally used to select party leaders.

Following the 2010 election, the party conducted an unprecedented renewal and consultation process with members. It culminated with a historic meeting of the general membership that made many recommendations to revitalize the party, including a new way to elect a provincial leader.

“The renewal process was a very good thing for the party,” Dysart said. “The members interested in a strong grassroots Liberal party in New Brunswick started us on a new path forward and helped set the stage for what I am sure will be a dynamic leadership contest.”

    Folks,

    Thanks for the corrections.

Unfortunately, I don't automatically know who the UNKNOWN candidate Duivenvoorden is.

But it seems the party assumes I do or else it would've sent pictures with the press release.

I would think the Grit spinners would know better than let a release go out to the media mentioning four people with no pictures attached.

I operate this outfit myself. I don't have time to run around trying to find a picture of their candidate. That's their job, and it makes me steamed I had to do so for this "Diving board" fellow.

I got the photo wrong. But it wasn't intentional, folks. I may not always get it right, but at least I make the effort.

    - ED.

  4. No excuse. If you want to put yourself out there as a publication/reporter/press, then get your facts and your stories straight before you publish them. It's not up to others to do it for you. Don't blame other people for your lack of research like "professional" reporters have to do.
