Motorists reminded that distracted driving legislation takes effect June 6, Fredericton, N.B.
On June 6, 2011, police throughout New Brunswick will begin enforcing new distracted driving legislation, prohibiting the use of hand-held cell phones, texting devices, and other portable communications and entertainment devices while driving. The act also prohibits the manual programming or adjusting of any global positioning system while driving.
'The new law provides police with another tool to help promote safe driving practices, making our roadways safer for all,' says Corporal Dan Roy. 'Drivers who break the law will be subject to the loss of three points from their licence and a fine of $172.50.'
